Joe's Guild Wars 2 Weekend, 9/5 - 9/7

Öffentlich
Saturday

This morning off-stream I played some more Guild Wars 2. I created a ranger and gave him a go. I think I found my main! This class is a pet class, so it plays like a bard and a summoner. But unlike those two classes, rangers are also capable of melee as well, and can freely switch between the two while out of combat (you can swap in-combat, but it triggers a 10-second cooldown). And you can even set up your build to take advantage of that (the "skirmisher" specialization - each class has 5 different specializations - centers around weapon swapping, traps, shortbows and swords)!

And rangers - or the "skirmisher" specialization, at least - also have a monk/ninja/dragoon aspect to them as well. Your attacks deal more damage/have extra effects when you attack a monster from their back or flank. So there's strategy involved with this class too.

So anyway, I did some questing and got him to level 10ish, after which I worked on his crafting disciplines (you can have up to 4 different ones). Eventually I did enough recipe unlocking to get him to level 20ish, and I plan on doing more during the evening stream.

A real good Guild Wars 2 session this evening, working on my ranger. I leveled up some of his crafting classes, enough to where I can make level 30ish equipment. And once all that got squared away, I started questing and event running and stuff. And in the end I made it to level 29, which means on my next session I'll be working on making level 30-35 gear, and going from there.

And the records I played today were:

Chicago Transit Authority (aka Chicago) - Self-Titled Debut
Edvard Grieg - Peer Gynt Suite
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark

Sunday

A pretty dead Guild Wars 2 stream today, with only white_wimmin dropping by for a little bit, then bailing afterwards.

Otherwise, it was all ranger today. Working on completing the Queensdale map, which I eventually pulled off:

After that, I just worked on upgrading my gear, as I had hit level 35. But I ended up aborting the stream part way in, due to lack of sleep (dream/nightmare-filled sleep), as well as my back and shoulders hurting.

I called in sick from work - again this week -_- - due to lack of sleep, as well as my back and shoulders hurting. So I just spent most of the night off-stream, working on the storyline, and eventually making it to the level 20 quests in Kessex Hills. After that, I went back and worked on upgrading my gear again, as I had just hit level 40. Then I started working on completing the Kessex Hills map. I also helped defeat The Toxic Wurm Queen boss as well (but not after nearly dying a bunch of times). So, my ranger is now at level 42ish. So, progress!

And the 33rpm vinyl I played this evening were:

Led Zeppelin - Physical Grafitti
Fugazi - Red Medicine
Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds
Funkadelic - Self-Titled Debut

Monday

This morning, off-stream, I tried something a bit different: I experimented with a melee-and range setup - the same thing I have with my ranger - with my warrior. Not as good. One, he can't equip short bows. He can only use the slow-ass longbows. And my warrior is already dual-wielding axes, which can be thrown, so he already has a ranged aspect to his melee, which makes using a bow redundant. Plus, the bow centers around fire damage, which does nothing for my build (centered around non-elemental damage and crits). So, a no-go with this guy.

And then, I tried the same setup with my thief, dual-wielding pistols, Lara Croft style, as well as dual-wielding daggers:

Bingo! In fact, one of thief's specializations - aka "Critical Strikes" - is all about this setup, buffing your pistols and, obviously, crits. They can even be used while in stealth for even more damage! On the downside though, until I reach level 45, where you can choose a second specialization, the melee part of this build doesn't benefit much, as it's centered around dual-daggers and poison (another specialization, called "Deadly Arts", is all about poison and dagger damage). But all this is definitely enough to make this guy my co-main. :D>

Did a 12-hour pseudo-fast today, resulting in me gaining a pound (152#. How, I don't know) and losing ¼-inch on my gut (35" now). Hard to bring myself around to doing 22-hour fasts like I used to do, especially since the food I eat now is so fucking good! Salmon, riced broccoli & cauliflower, hard-boiled eggs, grapes, bananas, chicken breast, and salad (these last two are being phased out though, due to lack of "slots", if that makes any sense). Still having junk food though. But aside from the occasional splurge - me and a co-worker has taken to buying and sharing cookies/donuts/etc with the rest of our crew, with the 2 of us eating most of it lol - I've managed to keep it under control.

Like last Friday, I did the FF XIV session off-stream, and just long enough to do the hunts & Pixie quests on my AST (still lvl 79 *sigh*). And I got that out of the way so I can do a full Guild Wars 2 stream this evening.

And it was all thief with a new range/melee hybrid, just like my ranger. I divided my time between questing and crafting. And eventually.......

So Kessex Hills will be next, trying for another map completion. Doing the main storyline there as well, which seems to be my current pattern, completing a map, then doing the storyline afterwards. Onward!

And here's the LP records I span this time around:

Metallica - Live From the Playhouse Theater, '86
Suicide - Self-Titled Debut
Vangelis - Spiral
The Doobie Brothers - Minute by Minute
Herbie Hancock - Sextant

Okay, time to call it a night <Take care.>, guys. And see you all on the flipside. ;)>

I remember the toxic Wurm Queen! That thing killled sooo many with it's spitting! ;p

Damn it Joe, you are REALLY making me miss GW2 now! I might have to patch it up and start playing again. If I do I should probably get the expansion so I can have mounts.

I don't know if you mentioned it, but one of the interesting things about that game is that it syncs you to whatever place you are at no matter what level you are, so EVERY zone is still a challenge to you, even at max level.

Yep! And best of all, it doesn't lock out your abilities that have too high of a level requirement for the area you're in. That's a major drawback to FF XIV's level sync, something Squeenix really needs to rectify. -_-
