Journal, I have something of noteworthy mentioning from yesterday.
So I was in the middle of some paperwork for the company and was hitting a wall. So I decided to go into Ul'dah to clear my mind and get some local food. Ul'dah is known for some interesting and unusual native dishes. The kebabs are the most flavorful thing I normally eat there. I bought a few and nibbled on them as I walked the sapphire bazaar.
Making my way to the Quicksand, I met up with Nergui. If you recall, I personally escorted him from kugane to the Eorzian shore and introducing him to the Free Company. He seemed a bit down at a distance while shuffling through adventurers guild leve cards. I got drinks from the bar and sidled up next to him, sharing of with him and made some delicate inquiries.
Suffice it to say, he was in between relationships from how I understood the conversation. I consoled him as much as I could. Then the conversation turned to a longing to return to his home in the Azim Steppe. Given the current status in the East, it's feasible that he could return home soonish, but its still a good amount of time away.
To distract him from that line of conversation, I peered over his shoulder at the leve notices. He was looking over some moderate to high profile targets in the Coerthia Highlands. He eventually selected a rampaging drain sighted near Whitebrim. I didn't see many details about it, like whether this was a renegade dragon or the request came from the Dragon leaders to the ishgard government who contacted the adventurers guild for outside help. Which is novel, because of their past exclusion policy being undone nearly a year or more back.
Regardless, I offered to assist Nergui in the task as an observer. I wanted to fight as well, but this was his assignment so I reigned that impulse. I teleported to Fort Dragonhead and dressed quickly for the cold weather. Fortunately it wasn't snowing but it was still a bit chilly. I rented a few chocobos and waited for nergui to arrive. He did and we headed out.
The location of the dragon sighting was in the Behemoth field, west by southwest of whitebrim. I was a bit nervous, but there wasn't a behemoth sighting for the last few days according to local watchers. I equipped my white mage stone and enhanced nergui's armor with some additional wardings of my own making. I kept in range of being able to heal him if the need arises, but apparently it wasn't necessary.
The combat was brief, but informative. He got in a few good jabs before he was knocked down. The dragon grabbed his legs and tossed him into the air. Jaws open, the dragon prepared to eat his victim. Nergui, though, had different ideas. He gathered his aether and clothed himself in blue flame, preparing to hard drive right down the throat.
Which, surprisingly, works. Nergui plunges down and goes in, then in an explosion of guts and blood pops out the stomach wall. The shock of it must've overwhelmed the dragon. That or the internal damage caused did it in. He cleaned himself off in a snowbank and we collected proof of the kill.
Remounting the chocobos, we went back to Whitebrim where he turned it in. He thanked me for assisting, albeit minimally, and the company. My head sufficiently cleared at this point I headed back to the company and finished up my work. Returning home my wife greeted me with a warm hug and we had a good night. I practiced some singing to the twins and they feel asleep.
