How you are handling the craziness out there?
So, the cronovirus is here in the states and the world is ENDING!.......well seemingly according to the media and panicked posts people make on the internet.
The reality is that, yes, cases ARE showing up in various areas around the country and that has caused much concern and prompted widespread lifestyle changes by many sources. Companies are either changing operations at their place of business, making people work from home, or, in some cases, shutting down entirety. Schools in various states from pre to college are closing for a number of weeks forcing students to stay home. Stores are being raided for the essentials leaving shelves bare as people's greedy asses take FAR more then is needed leaving others high and dry. Events of all kinds from sports, to gaming, to plays and shows are either being postponed or canceled outright. Some are even doing 'self-isolation' in their homes, not leaving them at ALL for anything. (Yeah, good luck with THAT! You'll go crazy in 2 weeks!)
So, with ALL this happening, I, your dear Ditzy Blonde, was curious to know how this was affecting the Lodestone people who post here. Are you VERY affected by this? Somewhat affected by all this? Or really not affected much at all by this? How is all of this crazy virus prevention affecting your life?
As for me, well, actually very little.
The big thing for me is that my son's preschool is complying with the state order to close for 2 weeks, so he is going to be around ALL day now with me having to take care of him.
Otherwise, as you know I normally work from home, so my job is not affected at all by this. The stores are a bit understocked with some things, but I currently am good on stuff and would be for a good month if for some reason I could not go out.
But really, I live in a small country town and NOT a big suburban area or large city; so it pretty much is business as usual. I still go out exorcising in the parks. I still go out to the stores. My boardgaming group still meets weekly. I am also quite healthy for my age with no health issues, so if I DID happen to catch it I think I would make a full recovery without issues. So, no, I am not worried and am just living life normally. (well, except for the son thing)
So there you go, Tell me how you are doing and I hope you are all coping with this well.

Actually not affected too much.
Not like I was travelling (or going to) around much lately anyway. Yet they reported a few cases for passenger groups in a big city not so far away from here. Ofc my alarm bells certainly rang loud so I skipped public transport when I actually wanted to attend a rare meeting (here goes another 2-3 months of waiting...)
I'm just praying people aren't letting their ig presence get affected by this (as I would feel that 1000fold backlashed)
Ppl don't panic.
Stay calm. Hmm.... Um.... m-maybe let's do some Savages?
PEACEFUL Savages tho.
The virus out there is already savage enough to get on our nerves. @_@
I went to a grocery store yesterday to do my weekly shop. I was shocked to see a lot of the shelves empty. Why are people acting so crazy. My kids are home for 2 weeks and my oldest will be out camping. He is.. was in the state championship for hockey.. that was cancelled. He's a senior and won't be playing at this level again. Basically our lives will not stop because of this stupid virus. I'm going to work, my kids are going to game, camp, hang out with friends. Stay safe.
Going to the grocery store, I was nearly run over several times. As well as the consistent sight of lacking toilet paper(we have enough) and yut.. no one seemed to be touching the tissues.
Aside from that journey, I can tell you the roads have been slightly less busy. Living in Florida, the elderly are now incredibly afraid to leave there houses and condos. Good thing too because they are the worst when it comes to hygiene. I wish that was an over statement but your grandparents are gross.
Wal-Mart now closes at 11pm and opens at 6am, presumably so we can do our jobs and not have Kare errr.. customers, excuse me, send us out on wild goose chases all night ("Sir, do you have any more of this in back?" "No we don't, ma'am." "Could you check again please?").
Otherwise, it hasn't affected me much. Aside from working and streaming I'm pretty much a loner that doesn't go out much anyway so, yeah.
Stupid gal in her maybe twenties was talking toward me at a GameStop near by stating
“I am just waiting to get the text stating we can’t go to work anymore! Yay!”
My hubby responded in the same manner I would have liked too..:
“Oh really? So when that happens, how you going to pay your rent? Where will you get your food? You do realize the world’s not going to stop spinning because you can’t go to work, trust me”
I was happy he did say that because it’s quite true
Yeah Joe, that whole 24 hr night stores closing thing does affect me a bit since I actually did a lot of shopping in the wee hours of the morning, (cause I can! ;p) Now I got to shop with the unwashed masses instead of the 2 am crazy people! LOL
You know, one of the things I AM curious about is the effect on rush hours in the various areas. Since many people are working from home, how less congested it it now for those still going into the office?
OH! Get this, this morning at work, because everyone in the company has to work from home, it caused our authentication token system to go DOWN! That's right, there was an OUTAGE of it and people could NOT log on! I am soooo glad I got off at 8 am not to have to see all that mess! ;p
I DO hope the vendor gets it fixed soon, well at least by the time I start work tonight!
I work at a department store and business is very very slow right now because we don't carry essentials. Some of my co-workers have chosen to stay home and I don't blame them but I'm not in a high risk group.
Schools here are closed for the next month, restaurants and bars for two weeks, and I believe at work there's now a limit to how many people we're supposed to have in the store at one time. I really don't think complying with that will be an issue, though.
On my side business is taking a huge increase!
Working for a phone company when everybody start working from home x)
I have my ups and downs with all of this. Things did go extra stressing when my dad got a phone call from the hospital he works in and was told that he had to be in quarantine, one his collegues had gotten the corona virus, so in order to protect others and the patients, my dad stays home.
So... I have my ups and downs days.
They closed my library so I'm out of work for 2 weeks. I'm actually not glad about this, that's where I get most of my social interaction and I had literally just launched the brand-new comic-book collection I've been working on for a year.
All my usual haunts - coffee shops, movie theaters, libraries - are closed, and I'm honestly not sure what I'll do with myself. I live alone and have been trying for years to learn how to spend time home without going crazy, and so far I've failed ^^;
To me, this has been blown out if proportion. People freaking out about getting close to people and giving each other 5 ft but then rush in droves to the local market to buy TP, baby food/ formula and other everyday stuff.
Does anyone remember Y2k? And its sad that a few people have passed. Majority being elderly in nersing homes with pre-egsisting conditions/ already on life support ext.
I totally understand infents and the concern for kids. That goes for all illneses though, flu, fever ect
...I say that just as our Head office is now closing down, no tineframe.
...shit, mabey im in denial
I will tell you as someone who has worked from home for over 5 years now, it's NOT as great as you THINK it is.
Sure you think, YAY, NO commute, NO annoying office workers, NO being around your boss!
But, you ALSO have
A. You are home ALL the time, no escape.
B. There are a LOT of distractions at home, do you have the discipline to work?
C. No way to unwind from work before you get home, you are already there as soon as you log off!
D. Can you get away FROM work? It is RIGHT there!
Since your work is at home, any stress from work is there too and you don't have the commute to 'detox' so to speak so you don't bring it home with you
See, I have an easy, non stressful job, so I don't worry about that. But people whose job is stressful might have that problem. The line blurs and soon there is no separation between work and home. You stay on the computer longer then you should and are answering email at all hours
So be CAREFUL people! Keep them SEPARATE if you have to do it!
Oh, and all you people whose work is shutting down complexly, I HOPE you are getting some kind of pay while out.
If you are salaried you SHOULD be! FINALLY, you get some benefit from being that status other then being screwed out of overtime!
If you are hourly though; ick, you probably are not getting anything from not working unless the company is being nice.
and the rainbow, MORE FF14 playing time! Yay?
Lalli, it's a poor substitute, but try chatting online, at least it is something
@Lalli I 'survived' being at home and what to do with it for years, on top it has to do with being sick (which I won't elaborate too much in public here for now, but know, everything got reasons).
So if i can manage and endure being at home without the usual resorts and visits, so can you. Crossing my fingers for ya. \o/
@Annabel there should be some more events in FFXIV around, maybe community driven events or etc. while the virus ruckus is going on?
Just let's do everything, besides just playing FFXIV and figuring out 'what else to do today?' ('specially for those without kids)
just to get that whole panic going on out there counter-balanced. .-.
Okay, I am not really the best thinking up (or presenting) actual ideas about topics/events/etc. but I felt like bringing it up...
*confuses himself* Uh-oh.
