Unless I'm misunderstanding this, 24 player frontlines will be removed in 5.1. If you don't know, Frontlines involve 3 teams. During peak hour you will more likely get into a 72 player match with 24 member teams. When there are less people queueing you get a 24 player game with 8 member teams. This evens out the queue time considerably. (There use to be 48 player games with 16 member teams)
Queue times right now are really good on my server with them rarely going over 5 minutes even in the wee hours of the morning. This is partially due to two events going on. Garo, which has been going on for a couple years now is ending with 5.1. People are now rushing to finish it up. The latest Moogle treasure Trove event will also end with 5.1. I'm pretty sure there will be more Moogle events in the future though. However when 5.1 drops these 3 factors, as well as the new PvE content, will probably cause the queues during peak times to return to 30 minutes plus and make it practically impossible to get a queue in the middle of the night.
Of course this will get a little better as people finish up the storyline and the raid, but it won't be near what it is now, even with a new frontline mode. What are they thinking? My TwitterMy YouTube

Occasionally, SE did some silly changes from time to time. This is just one of it.
I learned not to ask why, maybe I was tired of it, or maybe I just don't care what they were thinking anymore, lol!
I am of mixed feelings about this change. Definitely, it will hurt queue times. However, the existing maps are really too big for 8v8v8 IMO.
If SE feels they are too big then why did they remove 48 player before 24? IMO the maps are more suited for smaller groups and should be much bigger for 72. Either way it's just a different experience. Having a variety in PvP keeps it interesting. Both ways are playable and neither introduces balance issues.
