Just completed Ravana on hard mode, want to make a shout out to two really awesome players in my party with Tenma White and Lirissa Bloodthorn! No clue if they use Lodestone (hopefully it's okay to name their characters like this!) but they were honestly super sweet and I appreciated them a lot. :)
Went into that fight mostly blind, managed to not die at all after having repeatedly gotten killed in extreme primal fights (BUT NOT DYING FIRST/ALONE HOORAY) and was very relieved to have not burdened the healers!
But during the fight, me thinking everyone had a separate limit break gauge that was loading up throughout... I used my limit break. Tenma and Lirissa waited after we won and were kind enough to 1) explain that limit break is in fact a group thing 2) gently suggest I avoid using my limit break in primal fights because it'll snatch it away from other players who could potentially do more with it 3) included that black mage limit break is great for dungeons when you're getting mobbed 4) waited patiently as I went letter by letter frantically with my joystick messaging thank yous.
(In fairness I've gotten fast with it but still, it's a joystick.)
Honestly though my previous try at the game was sometime last year and I got to around level fifty before falling off. That whole time I did not have the faintest idea limit break even EXISTED. Within the past month, I had players in The Lost City of Ampador explain it to me very, very, very patiently. They even pointed out where it was in the menu for hotbar. After that I still stumbled a bit before realizing it was a target system.
Fortunately I learn from my mistakes (get the sense I'm mostly holding my own now) but good god I can be a serious dope before then.
Some of the most important skills I've figured out have come from more experienced players critiquing me, not angrily but with useful advice. It has meant a ton to me and really made the game more fun.
Best part of this experience though? No joke, when I exited the dungeon/cutscene, Tenma and Lirissa were right next to me as I was talking to Ysayle. I didn't catch it at first but the whole thing was really cute once I did! Jumped around, waved, and cheered to show I still appreciated the help before running off on my behemoth...
...and getting stuck on a rock shortly after. ^^;;
But yeah these players were incredibly kind and helpful, just wanted to shout out because they didn't have to do that but it really made a difference!

LOL, congrats on your primal kill.
After ARR all the primals are only 2 versions, hard and Extreme, there is no 'normal' version like ARR, the hard version is actually the normal one.
Yeah, limit break is the same for all members. Usually it's left for one of the dps's to use it near the end of a fight. But in REALLY hard stuff like raids or EX primals, it's left for the healers to use LB3 to res and fully heal the entire party if things are going south. Don't DARE waste it in those fights.
Eh, I don't know these things either (yet). It's great you met these people that were patient instead of jumping down your throat. I recently had someone explain to me that the healer kites in cutter's cry at a boss and I didn't know that but they were super nice about it.
At Annabel, lol thank you! And yup I've been noticing on hard versus extreme haha. To be honest I've been feeling very relieved by the Extreme fights. Every time I've tried the party disbanded, but I got the sense that disbanding was just because extreme makes for a hard fight in-general versus my fault. I did LB once in an extreme Shiva fight :O one of the players said not to but it was framed like "not until she is almost dead", which threw me off some.
Luckily I never thought we were close enough for a kill so didn't make that goof again on extreme, and when I LB'd on Ravana he was near dead anyhow so wasn't a lot of harm I could do with it. Still, REALLY GLAD THESE PLAYERS EXPLAINED TO ME SO I DON'T MESS UP IN FUTURE PARTIES.
And Yvi haha honestly if my newbie mistakes help you avoid making the same goofs, I'm really glad! XD I seriously feel lucky that these people took the time to let me know how I was messing up and were kind/understanding that I'm still totally a sprout haha. Also that's really good people told you about kiting! I haven't gone through healing routes yet, but thaumaturge the job quests basically drill it in that you absolutely must kite haha.
Also Yvi, idk if you've seen yet but have you hit the Smith training runs? I remember they did a lot of training there too, it's good for extra experience and you get a free armor out of it.
Cenric, are you sure they weren't hard runs of those primals?
No one does synced extreme runs of old primals anymore unless it's a special party finder for the experience of doing it. I mean you can TRY a duty finder queue for it, but it will be a looooong time before it pops, if it ever does.
I have done a number of them and they are NOT easy, even though the super experienced people say that they are. ;p
If you do or are trying them, READ a guide, it really DOES help!
I'm sure! It was labeled extreme and the ones they were for were Shiva, Good King Moogle Mog, and Leviathan. I've tried Moogle Mog twice, Leviathan once, and Shiva once. I've beaten them all on the standard hard mode, but as I was advancing quests I found prompts for the extreme versions. Figured it was a good chance for a little extra money and a little extra experience plus a fun fight, also it's gonna bug me if I know that quest is there unbeaten lol.
I did do standard duty finder though, it generally takes around half an hour though there have been times it went really fast haha. Beat hard mode for Odin but party died a bunch and it took forever to queue.
Also thanks on the suggestion! :P Agreed they're not easy, but honestly I've been really enjoying the challenge of the extreme runs too. I've been playing Bloodborne and Dark Souls on the side periodically, and weirdly I think that has helped my coordination in games haha. Initially I sucked a lot there too but the "you will die a lot but eventually you will learn and die less and then you won't die" school of gaming seems to work well for me haha.
Hmmmm, they must be new players queuing for them. In the old days, they NEVER popped.
But yeah, if you don't have some experienced people helping, the EX runs will mostly end in failure. The ones I did always had a bunch of wipes. 6+ was not uncommon.
The easiest ex I have done is Ifrit. If you understand the whole nail thing and focusing on the healer, he is not hard. I was main healer and knew how to deal with the damage he constantly threw on me, so was able to keep it from everyone else.
Shiva, its mainly the bow you got to worry about. Watch when she casts it and don't be in the way or it's instant death. Also the ice boundary, you get caught in that, you get frozen and slowly die. Other than those 2 things, she is not bad if you watch out for her ice spells.
Levi is all about the shield, when to use it properly. Also what to do to not fall into the water. Also where to kill the Sarghin that appear so they don't mess you up.
I think you're right on them being new players tbh. And the ending in 6+ wipes 100% was happening haha. I haven't hit extreme Ifrit though, weirdly enough--haven't found the quest. Got him on hard though. Very true on Shiva and Leviathan also, thank you! I started lasting longer into the fights and was doing a lot of damage. I think some of the other players got discouraged though. Usually the point right before it disbands is other players ditching.
On last run we did on Good King Moogle Mog, main tank seemed really bummed and said he was sure we were the group that was going to beat it when we lost someone. We got insanely close and people were surviving for a while mostly. Leviathan one of the healers kept falling off the side and people started getting annoyed at them, Shiva I think it was straight up that there wasn't enough time left even though people were enjoying the fight. We did poses for diamond dust lol.
Weird. I tried to do the old Extreme's couple days back starting with Garuda Extreme. I gave up after 15 minutes (Healer cues are generally not that long, so I figured nobody was doing them. I may have to just do them unsynched)
Ended up spending the last couple of days unlocking Expert and level 70 roulettes instead.
It's good to see there's still lots of civil people explaining things out there though.
Ah yeah I get you Tifka. Usually I queue up for the extreme runs when I know I'm running around doing other stuff for a while, so if it takes 30 or so minutes it's not a big deal. The one that has been full-impossible for me has been PvP, where I've had that queued up for over an hour before with nothing haha.
Note, unsynced 50 EX runs are NOTHING like the synced ones, they pretty much are just for people to get credit for doing them or for Wonderous tales completion. (you don't get access to that until you finish Heavensward)
The fights go so quick that they take like a minute or 2 at the most if that.
My FC co-leaders will actually do them for people at the drop of a hat because they go so fast. I've considered taking them up on their offer more than once - if there wasn't this silly pride of mine getting in the way.
