I kept myself busy, for rust of the soul is something easy to gather again. One of my main endeavor was to petition for access to airship travels. Indeed, I knew not where my travels would take me, and benefiting from the flexibility of quick travels like this one, and crystal teleportation grants tremendous benefits. It was a long fought battle of valor and deeds, along with the God's Quivers, and Mother Miounne of the Gridanian adventurer guild. But in the end, I managed to get my hands on such a pass. Truly, both Limsa Lominsa and Ul'Dah are sights to behold, especially from above.
And since a good news hardly ever comes alone, finally I received an answer from my client.
After what felt like months truly, my repeated letters asking for clarifications finally found an answer. Along with some other precisions. The first of which being that I should not have disclosed any information about my client, not even her gender. A bit too late for that it seems. An unfortunate slippage. But one that should not have too grim consequences.
In any case, the goal is clearer now. My client seeks an organisation of sorts, whose purpose is left to my own judgement. It's groundwork, made in preparation of her own arrival in the region. Talented people will have to be gathered, and a sense of duty and fellowship, while still leaving them to their own judgement has to be instilled. The ultimate goal, once the transfer of power takes place, is to be able to assemble an airship, and make use of it too. A lofty dream, especially considering how tightly the magitechnology behind airships is kept, but considering the pay, I certainly am in no place to judge any of this.
So, I find myself in need to find a rallying cause for a group that will keep a certain degree of independance. The searches that ensued made the form of the organization quite clear: it would be a Free Company. This meant, of course, joining a Grand Company first. As I enjoyed greatly still my stay in Gridania, I opted for the order of the Twin Adders. Their memorial service was quite moving I have to say. Even though mentions of the Warriors of Light were... Light to say the least. And that the twin adders banner would do well with the addition of a few more adders.
Still, I did not feel stared down when I joined. I find the requirement to provide for the company to get its uniform a wee bit peculiar, but it covers their costs, and I imagine due to the dangers they -we- face, it's not an absurd methodology.
Still, in between duties in their service, I ponder and ponder more about the initial drive and purpose I could give to this Free Company I will found. I am more an executant than a leader, truth to be told. I realize asking about fellowship and help between members would probably enough, if repeated loudly enough, to attract a few people. But, quality, more than quantity, and a certain industrious mindset feel like they would benefit my client's purposes more. Extras can be hired, but thinkers are harder to attract.
In the end, after meditative bow training and long rests in my room, I may have found the solution. A solution in any case. I still have to run this over to the proper authorities, and get a sufficient initial following, but an internal investigation group of sorts might be beneficial to the welcoming Gridania. Not an inquisition, no, I feel myself hardly as a judge for the soul. Monetary concerns however, are more in my line of sight.
How, indeed, do the guilds find their foundings? Guildleves are a thing of course, but they alone surely cannot provide for such broad organisations, the materials, the repairs, the tools and people. Or maybe I got it all the other way around. In any case, a bureau charged with investigating money-laundering possibilities, internal affairs, and the likes, seems like it would be beneficial to Eorzea... And my own purposes.
Now, to make "Extreme pencil-pushers" a prospect attractive enough to catch a few people... I will first try it as directly as possible, and only should it fail to impress spectacularly will I start compromising.
