welll i picked up gladiator to learn how to tank so far so good although i have not done a dungeon yet.. *gulp* i am nervouse about it

If you have a friendly team on your side, you shouldn't do too bad. Hone your skills, learn what each one does. Your friend is aggro, your best friend is a healer. Be the punching bag!
#1 Dont stress
#2 Do as much as you can to get everything in the mob to attack you.
#3 Focus the main target everyones attacking while popping flash every now and then
#4 Damage is just as important when dealing with enmity, dont spam enmity+ as youll lose aggro faster then if you combo'd.
#5 Have fun.
another thing to try is to mark the targets and tell people the order to kill. also flashing often helps so healers don't take agro :)
as a note, you can make macros for targeting. "/mk attack1 <t>" and you can do up to 5 I think.
Good thing about tanking in FFXIV, it's much simpler than a lot of other MMOs.
Bad thing, it still relies on the rest of your party cooperating.
As a gld, you'll want to start off with shield lob (ranged hate grab). Your dps should focus this target hopefully, and you can use a flash or two to pull hate on the rest of the mobs. Use savage blade to keep enmity up on the main target.
Save shield bash to try and flinch enemies. So yeah. There a that. Tanking is one of the easiest things to do in the game. So you will do fine as long as you pay attention to your life and your surroundings.
All you really need to do is flash spam everything to hold enmity then pop defensive cooldowns whenever you feel you're taking a lot of damage, and/or when you know big damage is coming.
Flash also doesn't break sleep CC afaik, so you can spam that whilst a CCed mob is nearby; however, aoe damaging effects will break it.
You really need to try different things out to see what works for you though.

As a fellow tank its best to have shield lod as an opener with a flash. Then attack with savage blade to each of the enemy to keep entity up to the mob group. Dont spam flash though, it takes alot of mp. So what I do, I pull with shield lod, flash-attack with savage blade to each mob and flash them again. Rinse and repeat. Trust me, I was scared too and made booboos along the way. But yeah you will get it ◇-~
"Tanking is one of the most easiest things" You couldnt be more off base, you have to deal damage, keep enmity, keep spawning mobs on you, keep the mobs attacking you, and focus properly. All ive done as DPS is sit back and target the thing the tanks on, or if i pull aggro run around the tank.
Well, I can give you a few pointers. Im a Tank player coming from Tera before this game. Tanking was alot more involved and harder then this game too since it was all real time skill action based.
1) ALWAYS Mark your targets. You dont have to mark every single one.Just mark the ones your attacking first and the party will follow suit. Unless you have a cocky DPS in your party. Thye like to attack stuff on their own. Dont worry about them just let them die.
Its best if you set a Target marker icon to your skill bar.
2)Start every fight, with flash. and Repeat it every 15-30 seconds. If everyone attacks your target you marked youll never have a problem.
3)SAVE THE HEALER! If you see a mob go after the healer. stop what your doing and go get its attention. DPS can die. Healer cant. Im not saying just let DPSs die but usually...They bring it on themselves.
4)Talk to your teammates. Be a leader. The tank if usually party face. Act like it.

Dekka Punchatrain Has a blog Called "Glad and the Art of Tanking" and he gives some really good advice for beginners. Also, I have a blog called "Gladiator Enmity Issues" where I got some good advice on maintaining a high level of Enmity in the LVL 20+ dungeons (where enemies start to prioritize healer)
Who needs a tank in TERA, you can down MCHM with just zerker, slayer, and healer that game really went down hill ;(

Yes I agree, you learn through your errors. No one taught me when I got in the dungeon so I told everyone im scared. But luckily I had good players and they were patient.
Im talking about before MCHM...That dungeons a joke. Im talking about doing HMs before T13 gear even came out. Lol MCHM...
Even at the start that game was trash, because before mchm etc tanks could just hold their shield up for eternity... flawed mechanics.
I can teach you how to tank...teach you how to heal...teach you how to dps...and teach you how to dougie...
