Behind the Pretty Face

Maple is the last living battlemage of the long defunct Ronkan Empire. Never heard of it? Few on the Source have. It was an ancient, mighty civilization that once laid claim to multiple continents over on the First. Much like Ancient Allag, their technology was a masterful blend of magick and machines. Flying cities dotted their skies and few nations would dare brave the dangers of opposing their supremacy.

Even so, Ronka's flying cities eventually fell from the sky, and once unassailable territories were soon overrun by all those once oppressed under the Ronkan banner. Maple is among the final embers of that old world, a bittersweet irony considering her participation in the secret coup that directly lead to what First historians call ❝the Fall of Ronka.❞

Who is Maple?

In short, she's a martyr struggling to find the altar she need bleed on. She's an obedient soldier with no commander and a competent general with no men to call her own. She's a teacher who will allow herself no more students and the dedicated apprentice of a dead woman. She's a proud defender who outlived everything and everyone she knew.

When Ronka was no more, and those loyal to Ronka who craved revenge against Maple were no longer in power, she lived on as a recluse for centuries at a time, occasionally lending aid to some local village or another before resuming her quiet entropy. It wasn't until the horrible Flood of Light and the advent of sin eaters that she ceased her troubled rest and once again took stock of the world and her place within it.
